Depending on what your plans are for this Halloween season you may want to secure a place to stay that is in theme with your holiday celebration plans. The Hudson Valley has everything from haunted inns to creepy castles. Here is a list of places you may want to check out. Reserve early to guarantee reservations.
Being the Queen of Halloween, I choose to stay at The Castle on the Hudson. My husband has no choice. What is a queen without a castle on Halloween. Especially when that castle is located so close to Sleepy Hollow the most famous Halloween town in the Hudson Valley. It is pricy to stay there, but a fantastic place for a nightmare to remember.
If you want to spend a night like a real ghost hunter, spend a night or weekend at the Shanley Hotel in Nappanoch. You won’t do much sleeping, but you will be on a Halloween ghost adventure. Be sure to check their event schedule soon as their events fill up quickly.
One of the most charming inns I have ever visited in the Hudson Valley is The Bird and Bottle Inn in Garrison. The inn is warm, cozy and feels very welcoming. This inn holds a special place in my heart. When I began writing a story about the haunting experiences at the Bird and Bottle Inn, I became intrigued with the spirit of Emily Warren Roebling. She was a woman of the world. It was hard not to feel an attachment to her. The inn was formerly known as Warren’s Tavern and served as the family homestead. Emily’s spirit seems to inhabit the Emily Warren Robeling room. If you would like to take a chance and see if she warms up to you, make a reservation for a nice dinner and an overnight stay.
The Collinwood Inn in Oneida is a new find for me, and I hope to get to visit soon. Being a hardcore Dark Shadows fan, the Collinwood is an ideal place to indulge my passion. Please be aware that the Collinwood Inn is not intended to be an exact replica of the Dark Shadows’ Collinwood . The inn has a dark Gothic feel with spooky events and maybe you can even watch a Dark Shadows movie or two. If you want to visit the real Collinwood, visit Lyndhurst in Tarrytown. Lyndhurst served as the Collins home in the movie “The House of Dark Shadows”.
Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz is an amazing place to stay anytime of the year. At Halloween you and the family can enjoy a relaxing and spooky weekend in a giant castle listening to ghost stories an attending a costume ball. Check their web site for more details.
